Pyjamas on parade to raise money for kids
ONESIES, sleepwear and slippers were the outfit of choice on 24 July as around 50 staff from local organisations embraced National Pyjama Day, raising funds to help foster children achieve brighter futures.
The event was hosted by Mulgrave and Cassowary Coast Child Safety in partnership with Innisfail Youth and Family Care, with participants proudly wearing their favourite pjs while supporting The Pyjama Foundation.
Staff from the Queensland Police Service, Child Safety, Innisfail Youth and Family Care, Cassowary Coast Regional Council Library and APM Disability Employment Service enjoyed a morning tea, helping raise funds that go directly to The Pyjama Foundation and their ‘Love of learning program.’
The organisation recruits, screens and trains volunteers known as Pyjama Angels, who mentor children in foster care through weekly visits.
Innisfail Youth and Family Care CEO Anita Laksa said the event was both meaningful and uplifting.
“It is a fantastic initiative to raise money for children in foster care and support them with additional needs. We hope to make this an annual and more public event which gets bigger and better each year,” she said.
Ms Laksa said the community had been “extremely generous” with donations of books and toys, all of which will go directly to children in care.
“This year, I am thrilled to announce we raised a total of $778, with $325 contributed by Innisfail Youth and Family Care and $453 from Child Safety,” she said.
Cassowary Coast Child Safety manager Bec Ferguson said the day was one her team looked forward to.
“National Pyjama Day is very important to myself and my team. It’s our favourite day of the year where we swap our corporate attire for pyjamas,” she said.
