Rain didn’t stop hardy golfers

PERSISTENT showers couldn’t dampen the determination of 26 hardy golfers who braved a soggy course and a string of passing downpours during Saturday’s 18-hole Stableford event on 2 May. Despite the radar looking promising at 5am, the weather quickly turned, leaving players to battle frequent showers, some light, some heavy, all memorable.

The wet conditions have already caused havoc for course maintenance and forced the monthly medal to be pushed back to the third week of May, but spirits remained high as the morning groups pushed through the rain.

Andrew Grieve posted a strong 37 points, but it was Gary Breitkreutz who continued his impressive run of form, leading the field with 38 points after the early groups finished.

In the afternoon, Rob Mills topped the card with 36 points, despite ‘leaving a few out there’ and a few laughs shared after Kevin Walsh accidentally ran over his ball more than once.

A highlight of the day was young golfer Jasper Curzon claiming both Pro pins on holes seven and 16, a promising sign for the club’s emerging talent.
