Rainy conditions didn’t deter golfers

ON a day when most golfers were wondering if they’d even make it onto the course, John Casale rose above the wet and challenging conditions to post an impressive 38 points, the only player to better his handicap in Saturday’s Single Stableford 18 hole competition on 4 April.

Early rain cast doubt over the morning’s play, but determined golfers pushed ahead once the course was made playable. Stephen Todd spent nearly four hours preparing the greens and surrounds, even picking up some roller training as he worked to get the course into shape.

Despite his efforts, the course remained tough all day, with players battling moisture, slow fairways and unpredictable lies. Casale, however, continued his recent run of form, setting the pace and proving increasingly hard to catch with two wins from his past three starts.

Jake Cockle and Allan Gould both mounted strong challenges and finished tied on 36 points, but each left shots out on the course which cost them a chance at the top spot.

With Casale’s consistency sharpening by the week, the handicapper may soon be taking a closer look.
