Resident‘s one-way wrath
A FITZGERALD Esplanade resident in Innisfail has added her concerns to the Cassowary Coast Regional Council decision to make the road one-way.

This follows a group of residents who are continuing their campaign to reverse the decision (The Observer, 22/07/2026).
“I would like to add my comments regarding this one-way road,” said Margit Pichler.
“I have been a long-time resident on this stretch of road,” she said.
“I signed the petition for this not to go ahead. At no time were I, or any of the other residents approached regarding our thoughts of the proposed one-way thing.
“I own a vehicle and find it extremely difficult to drive out especially when there is dancing in progress (at a nearby venue) when huge 4X4 vehicles block my vision.
“I have also had several near misses of nearly hitting children while driving in and out of my residence.
“A lot of the traffic for the dancing school still park under the trees on the riverbank.
“The previous road worked perfectly well for years, with bike riders and walkers coming to no harm whatsoever.
“Why change something when it’s working perfectly well?”
