Retailers in festive spirit
THE Mission Beach community is hosting its annual Christmas party on the new-look Village Green as the end of the $18 million town’s revitalisation project closes in.

The upcoming Christmas season is vital for businesses in Mission Beach, starting on 18 December with Santa rolling into town at the refurbished Village Green for the annual children’s Christmas party at 4pm–6.30pm, which includes live music, tasty food and refreshing drinks with lots of festive fun for all ages.
Santa will arrive at 4.30pm to sprinkle the crowd with Christmas joy, magic and plenty of smiles.
Organiser Bill Mathers said the theme this year was ‘children, family and community’.
“There will be lots to do. Alisa Querro will be singing, there will be airbrush tattooing and face stencilling by Dean, Sally Moroney will be making Christmas cards, Mission Beach Scouts, Mission Beach Surf Life Saving Club and Cassowary Coast Multi-sports will be in attendance,” he said.
“Lions and Rotary will be cooking sausages and there will be bananas and lollies for kids.
“Santa will be arriving on a fire truck at 4.30pm.”
Mini Mart Mission Beach owner Kerry Brown and her daughter Erin say they are well and truly back in business.

“The Mission Beach town centre revitalisation project has created a new-look town centre and we business owners who have stuck out the 18 months of hard times are looking forward to seeing people coming back to Mission Beach and enjoying our beautiful part of the Cassowary Coast,” Ms Brown said.
“We will be open every day over the Christmas period bar Christmas Day.”
Tony Bigger of The Chippy Mission Beach said it had been “a tough period for, not only the business owners, but their families”.
“We have all had to sacrifice to survive, with little support, but we’re committed to the region and believe that the trade will return – and we will be supported by the locals and tourists and bounce back.
“Business has had to endure 18 months of rebuilding the street landscape, roads and footpaths – and we are now open and looking forward to serving the people.
“This opens up our Christmas trade period and will, not only put a smile on the kids’ faces, but also the traders who have done it tough,” Mr Bigger said.
“It’s a vital period for Mission Beach business owners after enduring the last 18 months with restricted trade, but we are a resilient lot, and we encourage all to come down and support us over the coming holiday period,” he said.
