School farewells ‘Mrs Gilly’
MISSION Beach State School teacher Patricia ‘Trish’ Gilmore has closed the classroom door for the last time after 45 years of teaching.
Mrs Gilmore began her teaching journey in 1981 and, after an amazing 26 years at Mission Beach State School (MBSS), she has finally decided it’s time to put away the whiteboard markers, pack up the classroom, put her feet up and enjoy retirement.
From chalkboards to whiteboards, handwritten notes to computers, Mrs Gilmore has seen it all – and has inspired countless students along the way.
A post on the school’s Facebook page said Mrs Gilmore “is leaving us to move closer to family, and while we will certainly miss her around MBSS, we hope this next chapter brings plenty of relaxation, family time, adventures and absolutely no school bells”.
“Thank you, Mrs Gilmore, for 45 wonderful years of teaching, 26 of them here at MBSS,” it said.
“Your dedication, care and contribution to our school community will never be forgotten.
“Happy retirement, Mrs Gilmore. You’ve definitely earned it. From all of us at MBSS – thank you and farewell.
The community is full of praise for the much-loved teacher.
“A very capable teacher and beautiful person who provided great comfort and friendship toward my family many years ago,” said Juliette Edwards.
“Thank you for your service, your open mind,and your lovely family, Trish. You are incredibly deserving of the best in retirement. Congratulations, thank you and the best of wishes to you,” she said.
Shirley Grieve said Mrs Gilmore “definitely earned the right to retire”. “Wishing you a wonderful new chapter closer to family,” she said.
“Thank you Trish for everything you have done for the kids. Enjoy your retirement,” said Alison McCallum.
“You will be so missed. Congratulations on your retirement, you have been an amazing teacher to our kids,” Karen Hawkins said.
“Trish you are an icon. Thank you for everything you have done at MBSS and thank you for being there for my boys. Enjoy your retirement,” Anna Harris said.
