Seclusion the winner for cay
NEW research has established that a little-known cay off the coast of Mission Beach rates as the most secluded beach in Queensland.

Beaver Cay is a tiny pristine sand cay which lies roughly 40km offshore from Mission Beach on the outer Great Barrier Reef.
Research by LifeFlight Lotteries released earlier this year analysed online popularity, wave power, mobile coverage and wildlife to reveal the top 10 most secluded Queensland beaches.
Beaver Cay was the most popular secluded beach with a secluded score of 100.
The spot is known for its clear waters, exceptional snorkelling and diving, vibrant coral gardens and marine such as reef sharks and turtles.
The research also provided rescue coordinates and information about the wildlife that can inhabit the area, so visitors knew what to expect.
For those visiting Beaver Cay, access was by boat only, and mobile coverage was low.
LifeFlight care doctor Tristan Scott said anyone making the trip should inform someone of where they were going, how they were travelling and when they were returning so a responder could reach them faster.
He also advised to be aware of the quick changing weather patterns, swell direction and tides as well as other tips for a safe visit.
“If the water looks different in colour or the surface looks different than usual, avoid that area, it may indicate a rip or drop-off,” he said.
“Keep your phone charged so you can send your location if something goes wrong and carry more water than you think you’ll need to avoid dehydration.
“Simple supplies like bandages, sterile wipes, tweezers and a pressure bandage can stabilise a situation until help arrives.”
Other beaches in Far North Queensland to make the list were sec were Lucinda Beach, on the southern tip of Hinchinbrook Island (2); Mackay Coral Cay off Port Douglas (7) and Thala Beach just south of Port Douglas (8).
LifeFlight Lotteries offers the chance to win prizes while helping to save lives across Queensland. Every ticket sold directly supports the lifesaving work of LifeFlight’s rescue helicopters and critical care medical teams, who provide emergency care to people in need, anywhere and anytime.
