Seniors clean-sweep stuns
INNISFAIL United produced one of their most memorable days of the season on 22 August, claiming a rare clean sweep across all senior grades as the under-23 women, under-23 men and premier men recorded impressive wins over Marlin Coast at Castor Park.
Innisfail’s premier men stunned the undefeated Marlin Coast Rangers, snatching a gutsy home victory that handed the visitors their first loss of the season.
Liam Crossland once again proved the difference, finishing off a sharp move created by Fredy Schneiders to ignite the home crowd.
Keeper Elliott Ferguson delivered a standout performance, saving a penalty and commanding the box throughout the match.
Coach John Cavanah said the 1-0 win was long overdue.
“No teams have been able to beat Marlin Coast this season. We came close six weeks ago and this time we got the job done.”
He added that inconsistent player availability had hampered the squad all year, but moments like this reminded the group why they love the game.
“Those that played tonight will remember this win for a long time.”
Innisfail then faced Southside Comets in back to back fixtures.
Innisfail’s under 23 women extended their blistering form with a 6-3 home win over Marlin Coast. Kaitlyn Musumeci starred with a hat trick, while Stephanie Harrold, Addison Tanti and Malorie Haworth added one each.
The victory marked their 17th win of the season, strengthening their hold on second place behind Edge Hill. The Cutters have now scored 84 goals and conceded just 17, underlining their status as one of the competition’s most potent attacking sides.
Innisfail’s under-23 men also delivered a determined performance, securing a 4-2 win at home. Coach Chris Clauss said the side started strongly, taking the lead inside six minutes.
The visitors struck the woodwork four times in the first half, but debut goalkeeper Brandon Briggs held firm to keep a clean sheet before the break. Innisfail were clinical at the other end, building a 3-0 halftime lead and extending it to 4-0 from the penalty spot, before Marlin Coast scored late.
“The 4-2 result was a great response to a run of poor performances,” Clauss said. “We look forward to finishing the season on a high when we face South
