The new limits occur in:

  • Rankin Street (between Grace Street and McGowan Drive)

  • Fitzgerald Esplanade (between Grace Street and the Jubilee Bridge roundabout)

  • Edith Street (between the Bruce Highway and Fitzgerald Esplanade)

  • Owen Street (between Grace Street and McGowan Drive).

A Cassowary Coast Regional Council spokeswoman said the police requested council to undertake a speed limit review due to the lack of consistency and traffic incidents they attended to regularly.

“As a result of this assessment, council engineers determined the most appropriate speed limit for this area is 40km/h,” she said.

“This was endorsed by the Cassowary Coast speed management advisory committee, which is represented by officers from Transport and Main Roads, the Queensland Police Service and council.

“Speed limits will come into effect and be enforced once the signage is installed.”

Mayor Teresa Millwood said the changes would help keep all road users safe.
