‘Suite for Strings’ begins at 2pm and will provide an afternoon celebrating the warmth, power and elegance of the string ensemble.

The concert offers audiences an intimate musical experience and follows last year’s popular ‘Epic Adventures with Strings’ performance at the same venue.

Concert goer Andrew Greig praised that event.

“It was a pleasure to attend and listen to their inspirational sound,” he said.

The Cairns Concert Orchestra, first established as the Cairns Civic Orchestra, has been performing for the region for 57 years.

One of its most ambitious milestones came in December 1975, when, under the baton of Robert Simpson, the orchestra presented the entire performance of ‘Messiah’ with a full choir, a tradition which continued bi-annually in Cairns.

In 1993, the ensemble became the Cairns Concert Orchestra and now performs at least three major concerts each year, including its annual dinner concert.

The orchestra frequently collaborates with wind players, vocalists and other string groups to add depth and colour to its performances. As a not-for-profit organisation, new musicians are always welcome.

Tickets for ‘Suite for Strings’ are: $21.50 adults; $16.50 concession/students; $10 children under 18 and $52 family (two adults and up to five children).

Bookings can be made online at www.lastcall.net.au, with limited tickets available at the door on the day.
