Students in state spectacular
TWO Innisfail State College students took centre stage at Creative Generation – State Schools Onstage (CGEN), Queensland’s largest youth performing arts spectacular.
Performing alongside more than 2000 students at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Lochlan Collinson and Penny Blair represented ISC with distinction in the arena-sized production.
Penny was selected for the massed choir, joining 500 students from across Queensland to deliver the powerful vocal foundation of the show.
Her role placed her at the heart of the production, supporting featured performers.
Lochlan Collinson earned one of CGEN’s most coveted positions of featured vocalist, after progressing through a highly competitive statewide audition.
Candidates are assessed on vocal range, breath management, expression and even a rudimentary interval/sight-reading test.
His preparation involved months of rehearsals and multiple trips to Brisbane to work with industry professionals.
Reflecting on the experience, Lochlan said CGEN offered an invaluable insight into professional performance.
“Creative Generation was an amazing opportunity to experience first-hand how massive productions like this come together,” he said. “It was a wonderful journey, especially meeting people in the artistic field.”
This year’s production will be televised later in 2026, giving family, friends and the wider community the chance to see Lochlan and Penny perform on the state’s stage.
