Talented artist wins prize
INNISFAIL State College student Hamish Darvenzia has won the youth award at the prestigious Hinchinbrook Birdlife Art Awards at the TYTO Regional Art Gallery in Ingham.
The annual competition celebrates artworks inspired by the rich birdlife of the Hinchinbrook Shire and attracts entries from artists across Australia.
Mr Darvenzia received the award for his impressive acrylic painting of a Wompoo fruit dove.
“This outstanding achievement reflects Hamish’s artistic talent, creativity, and dedication,” a college spokesman said.
“We are incredibly proud of Hamish’s artistic talent and achievement and look forward to seeing his future artistic endeavours.”
More than 250 people gathered to celebrate the 11th annual awards.
This year’s exhibition features 105 entries across a variety of mediums including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media.
Hinchinbrook Shire Council community and cultural services councillor Donna Marbelli said each piece showcased bird species found in Hinchinbrook, from the iconic TYTO Wetlands, home to more than 230 bird species, to the broader natural landscapes that inspire artists.
“The Hinchinbrook Birdlife Art Awards are a wonderful celebration of both our region’s remarkable birdlife and the talented artists who bring it to life through their work,” she said.
