Ten-year transport proposal
A NEW 10-year plan to look after and improve the Cassowary Coast’s roads, bridges, footpaths and transport facilities has been launched by the regional council.

The ‘Transport Asset Management Plan’ will guide how the council manages over $1.2 billion worth of transport infrastructure now and into the future. The plan focuses on keeping services safe, reliable and sustainable, while preparing for a growing population and changing weather patterns.
Mayor Teresa Millwood said the plan was an important step in making sure the community’s money was spent wisely.
“Our roads, bridges and footpaths are essential for everyday life,” she said.
“This plan helps us keep them in good condition while preparing for future growth, improving safety, and meeting the needs of our community,” she said.
Key points from the plan include about $27 million per year to maintain, renew and upgrade transport infrastructure, at least $15m each year will go towards renewing older assets and the plan recommends revisions of design strategies to include both rising sea levels and extreme weather events such as increased storm and cyclone intensities.
