Representatives from Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Police Service, State Emergency Service, Queensland Fire and Rescue, Etty Bay Surf Life Saving Club, Innisfail Hospital and the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard QF15 were welcomed to the college by the student council, who organised the event to recognise the bravery, dedication and selflessness of local first responders.

Hospitality students and staff prepared and presented a morning tea, creating a warm and appreciative atmosphere for guests.

College captains Lochlan Collinson and Jara Ward addressed the gathering, expressing the school’s admiration for the vital work carried out by emergency services personnel.

They then presented certificates of appreciation to representatives of each organisation.

Staff, student leaders and first responders enjoyed the opportunity to connect, reflect and celebrate the essential role these workers play in keeping the community safe.

Senior Sergeant Shawn Pipia, officer-in-charge of the Innisfail Police Station, later shared a message of thanks with the college.

“As first responders, we often work in a high pressure environment where the demands are constant and the challenges can be significant,” he said.

“Acts of kindness like yours truly stand out and remind us that our efforts are valued and recognised.

“Your generosity and thoughtfulness mean a great deal to us, and we deeply appreciate the time and effort you put into making us feel supported and appreciated.”

The college said it was proud to acknowledge the extraordinary contributions of frontline workers and looked forward to continuing to strengthen its ties with the community.
