Tigers reserves make finals

But A-grade and under-19s miss out despite courageous efforts of players

TULLY Tigers reserves team marches towards finals but A-grade and under-19s are out.

On Sunday, August 10, Tully Tigers’ three senior rugby league teams faced Atherton at the Tully Showgrounds in their final games of the regular season.

Tully Tigers reserve grade team staged a second-half surge and snatched a thrilling four-point win over Atherton. The win saw Tully finish fifth on the ladder on 22 points and book a finals berth.

Tully’s try scorers: Luke Fitzgerald, Sam Tschui, Brandon Swindells, Darian Burton and Lester Mam. Goals: Morgan Black (1) and Luke Fitzgerald (3).

In the A-grade clash, Atherton registered a 22- 10 win over Tully and secured a finals berth after finishing second on the ladder in the last game of the regular season. The Tigers bowed out and fell one point short of finals contention.

With a heavy loss in the under-19 game, the young Tigers season has ended after they finished eighth on the ladder. This win saw Atherton on top of the ladder with 30 points and claim the minor premiership ahead of Cairns Brothers on for and against.

Kangaroos reserve grade team finished on top of the ladder with 34 points and clinched the minor premiership, while Cairns Brothers claimed top spot and the A-grade minor premiership, four points clear of Atherton.

Tully’s Phil Nona and Innisfail’s Aaron Jolley have received nominations for this year’s CDRL Men’s Gold Medal.
