Tough triple event returns
ENTRIES are officially open for the third edition of The Amazons Australia, the pioneering all-female stage race in the Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS).

Set to return to the “stunning Cassowary Coast” – including to Mission Beach and other areas nearby – from 1 to 4 July 2027, event directors are issuing a passionate call to action for local residents to step up, take on the challenge and experience the world-class event right in their own backyard.
Organised by Tri Adventure directors Jan Leverton and Kim Beckinsale, the premier event is a gruelling three-day stage race featuring mountain biking, trekking, running and paddling.
Competing in teams of two, partners travel together throughout a top-secret course utilising only a map and compass, testing their endurance, navigation and teamwork against the region’s breathtaking natural backdrop of world-heritage rainforests and tropical coastlines.
Created specifically for women, the race offers a powerful platform to push physical and mental boundaries while enjoying the incredible coastal views and local hospitality of the Cassowary Coast.
Unlike non-stop expedition races, the event features a unique stage format where teams race hard for six to eight hours during daylight before returning to a central community hub each evening to rest, recover and share stories.
“The Cassowary Coast provides an unforgettable landscape and a warm community welcome for our competitors,” co-organiser Jan Leverton told The Observer.
“The Amazons Australia was created to give women a space to challenge themselves, support one another and celebrate their achievements in an extraordinary location.
“As we head into our third year, we’d love to see even more local teams line up at the start line and share in this experience.”
When the event launched in 2025, it stood completely alone as the only all-female multi-day stage race affiliated with the ARWS anywhere on the planet.
Inspired by its massive success in a short time, the global calendar expanded rapidly, sparking a worldwide movement that organisers believe could soon pave the way for an all-female ARWS World Championship.
“To see what started right here in Queensland spark a global movement in just twelve months is incredible,” Ms Leverton said.
“We aren’t just hosting a race anymore, we are shaping the future of global adventure racing.”
Organisers are strongly encouraging Cassowary Coast residents, sports enthusiasts and local businesses to gather a partner, sign up, or get involved as event volunteers and supporters.
