The tapestry, commissioned and donated by the Garozzo family, was blessed by Bishop Joseph Caddy and now stands proudly in the shrine at St John’s Catholic Church, Silkwood, as a tribute to Mr Garozzo, who died in 2024.

The Mass also included the induction of the committee’s newest member, Cairns local Jake Girgenti. His badge, along with others, was blessed by Bishop Caddy before being presented by committee president Cosimo Tedesco.

The Three Saints committee has continued its tradition of giving back to the community with a $2000 donation to COUCH (Cairns Organisation United for Cancer Health).

The community-founded charity supports people affected by cancer across Far North Queensland and assists groups, such as the Cairns Prostate Cancer Support Group. Each year, the committee’s key focus is supporting organisations that benefit its members and devotees.

With preparations well underway, the committee is gearing up for the 76th anniversary of Australia’s largest religious and cultural festival on Sunday, 3 May at Harold Street, Silkwood.

Festivities begin at 10am with an Italian Mass concelebrated by Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Charles Balvo, Bishop Joseph Caddy and Father Kerry Crowley. The unveiling of the Three Saints and the traditional Eulogy of the Three Saints, accompanied by the Saint Alfio Choir, will take place during the service.

At 2pm, the Saints will be placed on the Vara for a solemn procession, rosary and hymns, supported by the Cairns Municipal Band. An English Mass will follow at 3pm, along with the blessing and veneration of the relics of the Three Saints. From 4pm, there will be food, entertainment and fireworks at 7pm.
