Tributes to ‘Dom’
INNISFAIL identity Domenico ‘Dom’ Magnanini, who died two weeks ago aged 81, will be farewelled at Good Counsel Catholic Church tomorrow at 10.30am.
The beloved retired storekeeper died peacefully after suffering from dementia for several years.
His son Mark Magnanini said his father was a generous, hardworking man who looked after the Innisfail community from his teenage years.
“The most amazingly kind loving and generous man we’ve ever known,” he said in a tribute on Facebook.
“You always gave your everything to ensure others did not go without.
“Whether it was your family, your friends or your customers, or even just a random, your kindness was unmeasurable.
“Our hearts are very heavy and, even though we knew this day was a blessing due to your dementia, it’s so very hard to say goodbye.
“You taught us work ethic, generosity, family values and the importance of love and kindness.
“We will miss you every day but know your memories will never fade.
“You will always be our hero.”
Mr Magnanini senior ran Dom’s Fun Food Store on Edith Street in Innisfail until his 70s, a store that opened at 8am and closed at 9.30pm every day.
He also worked as a news and wedding photographer, served in the Australian Defence Force and the Rotary Club of Innisfail.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilena (Mary) Magnanini, son Mark, daughter Milva, their spouses and children.
Dozens of tributes have been posted on Facebook.
“Dom was a wonderful friend to my father-in-law Peter Parakas,” said Hayley Rayment-Parakas.
“He made Matthew and I a beautiful photo album after our wedding and was so kind to us when we were in Innisfail after Peter’s passing, bringing us food each day. May he rest in peace,” she said.
“Dom was a wonderful man who was always friendly, kind, generous and a humble man,” Sylvia Wagner said.
“Dom was also our wedding photographer, who did a wonderful job, always giving while running the shop. Nothing was ever out of his way to make others happy. He has touched the lives of many.”
“He was a lovely man in the community for all those years in the shop, beautiful memories to hold on to,” Rhonda Carroll said.
