Trio win first round of championship triples

LAWN bowlers made the most of perfect winter weather last week, with both the Innisfail ladies and men’s team producing standout games, close contests and plenty of social spirit on the greens.

The first round of the Innisfail ladies 2027 championship triples was played in brilliant sunshine on 29 July.

In a well matched contest, Helen Paterson, Daphne Kirkman and Maisie Smith claimed a 23-13 win over Marilyn Allen, Lyn Stevenson and Margaret Wardrope.

Two social games were also played, with Christine Pascoe, Dian Catelan and Kath O’Brien winning 17-13 against Jan Dunn, Carol McRobbie and Kath O’Brien, while Ann Rule and Cheryl Higgins defeated Bev Anderson and Margaret Johnston 14-8.

Competitive play continued at Thursday afternoon social bowls on 30 July, where the men’s president and skip Alf Strano, alongside Rod McMillan and Peter Robertson, secured victory with a score of 22. They finished just one point ahead of the team skipped by Wayne O’Neill, with Rob Croatto and John Morrison, who posted 21.
