Cassowary Coast Regional Council says contractors RMS Engineering and Construction will be continuing overall works that include:

  • Continuing footpaths and landscape works

  • Completion of the toilet block

  • Continuing awning construction

  • Installing street furniture, including bus shelter.

Works in December include:

  • Installation of awning roofing, timber infills, guttering and lighting.

  • Pavement works include:

  • Completion of concrete footpaths in Village Green, with associated changes to pedestrian access during construction

  • Disabled ramp by Leny’s Fruit and Veg shop

  • Installation of tactile paving

  • Village Green stairs modification.

Landscaping includes:

  • Increased landscaping works including turfing, planting, and garden bed installation

  • Completion of children’s play areas

  • Street furniture and artworks installation.

Toilet block:

  • Completing hanging of the toilet doors and electrical components.

Pedestrian, traffic and site changes:

  • Pedestrian access diversions (to allow awning construction work) are in place around the former Pirate Den Bar and Grill and former Blues Bar and Cafe, Porter Promenade.

A council statement said alternate routes for pedestrian movement were in place.

“Traffic control will be in place as required, some parking spaces will be temporarily lost if within the works location but the contractor will maintain business access,” it said.

The statement said all residents and businesses affected by planned service disruptions would be notified and there would be noise from machinery.

“Fencing will be installed around any active work areas and pedestrian areas will be restored wherever required,” it said.

“Every effort will be made to reduce disruptions during this time. We thank you for your patience and cooperation.

“Please note that access and work areas may change regularly and updates will be provided as required.”

Work times are 6am to 6pm Monday to Friday (Saturday/Sunday work as required).
