Valued award for teacher
GOOD Counsel College (Innisfail) wellbeing assistant principal Matt Nolan has been recognised in the 2026 James Cook University (JCU) site-based teacher educators awards, where exceptional educators were recognised for their outstanding mentoring and support of pre-service teachers during their school placements.
The college said the awards were particularly meaningful because recipients were nominated by the pre-service teachers themselves, who reflect on their teaching placement and the influence of their supervising teacher.
“The nominations highlighted the important role site-based teachers play in developing the skills and practices of future educators,” the college said on Facebook.
“They also recognised the personal support and encouragement provided by supervising teachers, which will remain with these students as they begin their own teaching careers.”
The judges said while all nominees were recognised for their significant contributions to developing pre-service teachers’ professional skills and classroom practice, “a common theme emerged throughout the reflections: these supervising teachers consistently went above and beyond expectations”.
“Their encouragement, guidance and genuine care not only strengthened teaching capabilities but also left a significant personal impact, which the pre-service teachers will take with them into their careers.
“The reflections highlighted the important role these mentors play in building confidence, fostering professional growth and inspiring future educators as they begin their teaching careers.”
