Veteran golfer Ian Street matches age with score of 74
IT is not every day a golfer gets the chance to shoot their age, but Ian Street seized the moment in style, producing a brilliant round of 74 off the stick to claim the overall honours in Innisfail Golf Club’s monthly medal competition on 17 October.

Golf
Despite another rain-soaked morning on the course, golfers turned out in strong numbers and were rewarded with some impressive scoring across both the morning and afternoon fields.
Street’s round was the standout of the day. After birdieing the 10th and sitting level with the card, he gave himself every chance of matching his age.
A couple of unlucky shots threatened to derail the effort, but he held his nerve to finish with a superb score of 74, equating to -4 nett and securing the overall monthly medal title in the over-55 division.
Earlier in the day, John Casale quietly put together an even round, while Andrew Rose, Jack Johnston and Glynis McGrath all performed strongly to finish on -1. In the afternoon, Craig Alman mounted a solid challenge, signing for -2 to claim second place in the over-55 category.

Bowls
A DRAMATIC late surge propelled Daphne Kirkman into the final of the 2027 Innisfail ladies singles championship, with Kirkman breaking away in the closing stages to defeat Helen Paterson 26-22 in a hard-fought semi-final on 21 October.
With the contest finely poised at 23-22 after 30 ends, Kirkman held her nerve when it mattered most, picking up three shots to seal victory and book her place in the championship decider against Maisie Smith.
The thrilling semi-final headlined another busy week on the greens, with a strong roll-up of ladies enjoying the competition despite the warm conditions, helped by a welcome breeze off the river.
In social bowls, Lyn Stevenson, Jan Dunn and Maisie Smith were in fine form, recording a convincing 26-10 win over Bev Anderson, Catrina Cook and Carol McRobbie. Another closely contested match saw Ann Rule, Diana O’Brien and Julie Connors defeat Louise Hoskins, Kath O’Brien and Joan Atkinson 19-13.
Competition remained strong in the men’s social bowls on 22 October, with 29 players taking to the greens. The team skipped by Wayne O’Neill, alongside Geoff Johnston and John Fossey, finished on top with 22 points. They finished ahead of Doug Juhas, Sam Micale and Peter Broccardo, who finished on 19 points, following another afternoon of close and entertaining contests.
