Wanted: First Nations artists

EXPRESSIONS of interest from local First Nations artists and creatives to participate in the Cassowary Coast First Nations Art Show 2026 are open.

The vibrant exhibition will take place during National Reconciliation Week on Tuesday 2 June 2026 at the Innisfail Shire Hall from 10.30am to 6pm and will celebrate the rich cultural heritage and artistic talent of First Nations people in the region.

A council spokeswoman said council was inviting emerging and established First Nations artists with a connection to the Cassowary Coast region to submit up to four original artworks or creative pieces for display.

Submissions can include a wide variety of mediums, such as:

  • painting

  • drawing

  • weaving

  • sculpture

  • ceramics

  • jewellery

  • fabric and fibrework.

In addition to showcasing their work, artists can also express interest in receiving business and marketing support through council’s economic development team.

The spokeswoman said the support was designed to help artists grow their creative enterprises and might include assistance with branding, pricing, online selling and more.
