Wet weather fails to deter hardy bunch of lawn bowlers

NOT even the wet weather could keep players away on 26 July, with 30 determined lawn bowlers taking to the Innisfail Bowls Club green for a lively morning of social bowls followed by a hot breakfast served up by club members.

Alf Strano, Geoff Jensen and Jan Dunn claimed top honours with an aggregate score of 17, edging out the runners up, Bob Chaplain, Narelle O’Neill and Carol McRobbie on 16.

Competitive matches continued at Thursday afternoon social bowls on 23 July, where skip Bob Chaplain, Ian Humphreys, Vince Cooper and Bill Hoskins, claimed victory with a score of 25. They finished just one point ahead of three teams locked on 24, including the team skipped by Kevin Foord, the team of Wayne O’Neill, Sam Pagano and Barry Aslandis, as well as Mark Elliott, Rob Croatto and John Fossey.

The club continues to welcome new members and visitors to Thursday social bowls. Names are required by 12.30pm for a 1pm start. The $15 entry includes two 12 end games, smoko and a jackpot draw, a great afternoon of bowls, camaraderie and community connection.
