What a load of rubbish
NEARLY half a tonne of rubbish has been removed from Kurrimine Beach in the annual clean-up.
A Cassowary Coast Regional Council spokeswoman said council and the community appreciated the 30-plus volunteers who rolled up their sleeves for the annual Kurrimine Beach clean up on 22 August.
“Together, we removed an incredible 518kg of marine debris and rubbish from the beach and surrounding areas, helping protect local wildlife and keep our coastline clean and healthy,” she said.
Cr Trudy Tschui thanked all the volunteers.
“Rubbish was collected from Murdering Point Rd and from the beach. Cans and bottles that could have been recycled, now will be,” she said
Other organisations included Mandubarra Rangers, Kurrimine Beach Fishing Club, Kurrimine Beach Progress Association and Tangaroa Blue for helping make the day possible and to every volunteer who gave their time.
The council spokeswoman said it was “a great community effort”
“We’ll be back again next year,” she said.
