A special lunch will be hosted on 6 March at Brothers Leagues Club Innisfail.

Yet, Inner Wheel Club of Innisfail is even older, now in its 63rd year.

Earlier this month, members of Inner Wheel Club of Innisfail and guests enjoyed a special lunch at the Goondi Hill Hotel to celebrate Inner Wheel Day.

The Innisfail club continues to support local organisations with donations made to Innisfail Youth and Family Care, which assists vulnerable youth staying at the shelter.

The organisation also supports Innisfail Meals on Wheels, Innisfail State College and the Innisfail RSL sub-branch, including important local events such as ANZAC Day and Police Remembrance Day.

Last October, a Halloween-themed wine and cheese night took place at Roscoes Pizza, Innisfail, which featured live music by DJ Ailsa Q, and the event raised $1000 for cord blood research.

Clubs celebrate Inner Wheel Day on January 10 worldwide, promoting unity and personal service among members.

The first Inner Wheel Club formed on January 10, 1924, in Manchester, England, by the wives of Rotarians and now the organisation welcomes women from all levels of society. The organisation was established in Australia in 1931.

Inner Wheel is active in more than 104 countries across the world, with approximately 4000 clubs and more than 115,000 members, with a strong focus on its objects of true friendship, personal service and to foster international understanding.

The International Inner Wheel theme for 2022-2026 is ‘Step Up and Lead by Example’ which emphasises the importance of stepping up to lead others in the organisation and in the community. Members are encouraged to promote friendship, foster international understanding and make a positive change to society.

As one of the largest women’s voluntary service organisations in the world, members provide personal service in different areas, as well as supporting local, national and international causes.

Since 2001, clubs have raised funds to support the national project – cord blood research. It has raised over $4 million, with 64 medical grants awarded to researchers.

The Innisfail club currently has 29 members and their fundraising efforts are through selling tickets and five rounds of 100 boards at Brothers Leagues Club Innisfail, three or four times a year. Committee meetings take place on the first Tuesday of each month at 9.30am at the Innisfail Community Support Centre.
