Graziers urged to enter sale
CATTLE producers from throughout the Far North will have the opportunity to show the acclaim for their cattle standards via the Cairns Show store prime beef sale and Nutrien Store Sale on Thursday 16 July.
Far Northern cattle producers are being encouraged to enter the annual cattle standards contest to be decided at Mareeba Salesyards in July.
Earlier this month, Nutrien Ag Solutions Far Northern and North West manager Tom Mugford announced the cattle competition in conjunction with the Cairns Show Association.
Keen competition is expected throughout the region’s cattle producers who will vie for eight categories:
Male cattle
Grass trade ox: Class 7002 minimum pen of three – Ox to 600kg
Export steers: Class 7003 minimum pen of three – Steers to 280kg-380Kg
Weaner steers: Class 7004 minimum pen of six – Steers 200kg-300kg
Heavyweight ox: Class 7005 any number of ox over 600kg.
Female cattle
Trade heifers: Class 7007 minimum pen of three – Heifers 380kg-560kg
AdvertisementExport heifers: Class 7008 minimum pen of six – Heifers 200kg-380kg
Weaner heifers: Class 7009 minimum pen of six – Heifers 180kg-300kg.
Cows
Class 7010 minimum pen of three – cows 400kg-520kg.
“This Nutrien Ag Solutions-Cairns Show Association competition is a unique opportunity for graziers and buyers to gain acclaim and participation will ensure recognition from both ends of the Far Northern cattle industry,” Mr Mugford said.
Closing date for nominations is Thursday 9 July and the sale start time is 10am on 16 July.
“Given the announcement of the annual live cattle competition, graziers are encouraged to select their cattle entries early and to start preparing them for the highly-competitive contest,” Mr Mugford said.
“We see excellent cattle produced locally throughout the while Far North Queensland region and this live cattle sale competition is a way of acknowledge the best of the best as part of the many faceted annual Cairns Show competitions, so the winning awards will carry certain region acclaim and excellence.”
He said that as well as the keen nature of the new competition among graziers, there would also be competition coming from buyers, including other cattle breeders and graziers and, of course, the many butchers across the entire Far Northern region.
