Stray to Stay, a not-for-profit dog rescue service in Far North Queensland, aims to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome vulnerable dogs and cats, with a focus on animals at high risk of euthanasia in council pounds and within the broader community. Since the organisation started this year, more than 30 dogs have been rescued.

Tamsin Gore, Gabrielle Gleeson and Corina Graudins Reid saw the need in the region and founded an animal rescue service, which supports the Cassowary Coast and Burdekin regions and up to the Cape.

“We work closely with the Innisfail pound and are always looking for foster carers in the Cassowary Coast region. We supply food, preventive, bedding and essential supplies while foster carers supply a safe home, love, time and patience,” said Ms Gore.

She thanked Coral Coast Veterinary Services for organising and hosting the event, all the volunteers who helped on the day and Kellie’s Kreations and Cards for their products. On the day, Jack Shinn and Stacey Ward were the lucky raffle winners.

In late August, Stray to Stay held a highly successful Paint, Pot and Plant afternoon where participants hand-painted a terracotta pot, filled it with soil and selected their own flower or herb. This event raised just under $400 which will go a long way to providing life-saving vet care, food and enrichment supplies and warm beds.

Jagad's Cafe, Retreat Beauty and Sherrie Mann have donation boxes and are selling handmade candles, Kellie Parakas sells dog keychains and wristlets, while Victoria Black also makes crafts and items to help raise funds.
