Two silver award winners
TWO young Cassowary Coast rugby league players have picked up top awards at the Far North Queensland Rugby League Silver Medal Dinner at Brothers Leagues Club in Cairns.
TWO young Cassowary Coast rugby league players have picked up top awards at the Far North Queensland Rugby League Silver Medal Dinner at Brothers Leagues Club in Cairns.
Ally-Rose Clayton-Payne, of Tully Tigers, took home the under-13 girls silver medal, while Dylan Barba, of Innisfail Junior Leprechauns, was announced as the under-17 girls silver medal winner.
Dylan’s success did not end there as she was named hooker in the under-17 girls team of the year, selected from players who accumulated the highest votes across the season.
Innisfail’s under-15 girls fullback Jazlyn Tomarra also earned selection, along with teammate Rani Norkett at lock.
The boys were represented too, with under-13 prop Mason Ramsay named in the junior boys team of the year.
Ally-Rose was also named as second row in the junior girls team of the year, alongside Tully teammate Mya Tauli, with Elijah Pelesa named as prop in the junior boys team of the year.
Innisfail Junior Leprechauns president Scott Hayward congratulated all nominees and winners.
“Your passion, effort and commitment throughout the season have been outstanding,” he said.
“To have four Innisfail players named in the teams of the year is a fantastic result and a great reward for the hard work put in. The future of rugby league in Innisfail is looking very bright.”
The junior Leprechauns marked seven player nominations across five grades, a junior referee nomination, and a major win in the final award of the night.
Nominated players included:
Under-13 girls: Vivianne Ungil. Under-13 boys: Rick Stephenson. Under-14 boys: Kyuss Barba and Kobe Tomarra. Under-15 girls: Rani Norkett and Jazlyn Tomarra. Under-17 girls: Dylan Barba. Junior referee: Jake Stephenson and senior rookie of the year: Lillee Barba.
Silver medal votes are tallied throughout the regular season, with opposition coaches awarding votes after each match.
To have nominees spread across multiple age groups, as well as officiating and senior categories was a significant achievement for Innisfail.

U15 boys: Elias Wone (Redlynch) and Mikeal Aniba (Edmonton). U16 boys: Brodie Booker (Brothers). U17 girls: Dylan Barba (Innisfail). U17 boys: Beckett Fry (Atherton). Other awards: Referee of the year: Jacinta Teahan. Club spirit award: Mossman Sharks and Club champion: Kangaroos JRL.
